Darren Michaels was originally a fermentation technician of fragment and whole antibodies at Scripps Research of Immunology and entered the wine industry 18 years ago as a wine chemist for Trinchero Family Estates, covering wine and beverage projects. He moved to Santa Maria, California to become Central Manager of Vinquiry, an ISO accredited wine lab and product company, and left become Director of Enology and Quality at Terravant Wine Company, a custom and private label winery and commercial laboratory that produced multiple alcohol-related products. Darren eventually became a winemaker for Laffort USA and made his way up to Washington State to start Tetrahedron Wines and Big River Laboratories, a lab that supports and consults for wine, cider, kombucha and vinegar products.
