Tracy Genesen is the Vice President and General Counsel of the
Wine Institute, the public policy advocacy association
representing over a thousand California wineries and affiliated
businesses responsible for 85 percent of the nation’s wine
production and more than 97 percent of U.S. wine exports.
Tracy is a seasoned Beverage Alcohol attorney who specializes in licensing, federal and state regulations, franchise laws and distribution agreements. In addition, she has advised beverage alcohol companies on sales, marketing and digital advertising platforms, including contests, promotions and sweepstakes.
Tracy has represented clients before Federal Agencies such as the Tax and Trade Bureau and the Federal Trade Commission and testified before the House Judiciary Committee on behalf of the wine industry.
Prior to her appointment at Wine Institute, Tracy served as General Counsel to Edrington Americas, the North American arm of a Scotland based distilled spirits manufacturer. She helped create and implement the American wine industry’s litigation strategy for the landmark U.S. Supreme Court Case of Granholm v. Heald regarding direct-to-consumer shipping. Genesen has advised wine, spirits and industry association clients on a broad range of issues and has expertise in licensing, federal and state regulations, franchise laws and distribution agreements.
