Pitch Perfectly: Building Better Bridges Between Public Relations and Wine Media
Katherine Jarvis is President and Founder of Jarvis Communications, Inc. based in Los Angeles, CA. Since 2005, her company has created and managed public relations programs for businesses, people and brands in the wine, spirits, restaurant and travel industries.
Though she grew up with wine on the table every night for dinner, Jarvis’ career in wine began in 1997 when she worked in fine wine auctions in Chicago—first at Davis & Company Wine Auctioneers (now Hart Davis Hart) and then with Lionstone International in partnership with Sotheby’s North American wine auctions. In addition to developing new restaurant buyer accounts by working directly with sommeliers, she established wholesale procedures in compliance with the three-tier distribution system. Prior to launching Jarvis Communications in 2005, she was an Executive Director at a leading hospitality PR firm, where she accompanied press to regions as far flung as South Australia and as close to home as Santa Barara.
A native of Carlisle, Pennsylvania, Katherine credits her upbringing as the child of two professors directing study abroad programs in Malaga, Spain and Bologna, Italy for her love of food, wine and culture.
She studied history and Latin American studies at Northwestern University, taking semesters abroad in both Spain and Brazil, and summers in Petersburg, Alaska, gutting salmon. Upon graduation, she taught history at a bilingual school in Bogota, Colombia, before returning to Chicago to work in wine.
Katherine is proud to have dual citizenship with Italy. In her free time, she loves to cook, entertain friends, hike, go to flea markets, listen to vinyl records, read and spend time with her husband on the sidelines of a lacrosse field cheering for her two teenage daughters.
