Technology in Vineyard Operations: Practical Use and Real-World Challenges
Technology is everywhere in modern farming—but how are we actually using it in our daily operations? And more importantly, how is it truly improving our efficiency, our bottom line, or the way we farm day to day?
For this discussion, we want to focus not on the latest shiny tools, but on what we’re already using—from the basics like Excel spreadsheets to more advanced systems that automatically collect data from our tractors, irrigation systems, and field sensors.
The real challenge isn’t a lack of data—it’s figuring out how to connect all these different data silos into something actionable. Too often, we’re collecting information that never gets used to changing the way we operate.
Our goal in this conversation is to explore how we can better utilize the data we already have—without adding cost or complexity. In today’s economic environment, the focus has to be on making smart, frugal decisions. That means using technology to inform our decisions, not just overwhelm us with more dashboards or devices.
Let’s talk about what is working, where we are stuck, and how we can bridge the gap between data collection and real-world decision-making on the farm.
